Drill to Earth's Core Movement, riding, and solo habits
E for upgrades, sit on the drill, freeze camouflaged ore, revive teammates, and keep coal in a quiet server.
Drill to Earth’s Core runs on Roblox, so the left stick and WASD already work. The rest of the control scheme is specific: sit on the shared drill, press E to open in-run upgrades, fill a sack, look at camouflaged ore until it freezes, revive the miner who just ate a wall, and accept that the server will not save your hotbar if it closes. This page is PC versus mobile, 30-player versus almost-solo, and the fuel loop that keeps a quiet lobby alive.
Read it with the first-hour walkthrough. Controls without a buy order still leave you as a passenger. A buy order without riding still leaves the bit unmanned.
Movement, the drill, and the E panel
On PC, walk with WASD, jump, and use the mouse to look. On mobile, use the default Roblox thumbstick and camera swipe. Interact prompts use the platform’s interact button; on PC that is E for the drill upgrade panel and for most world objects. Open upgrades while the vehicle is parked or at least not in a boss-wall panic. Common ranks start at 100 coins. If you cannot find E, you are standing too far from the chassis or you are already in a menu.
Sit on the drill. A crafted Chair (20 scrap) from Crazy Zack makes this reliable; without one you still can ride, you just slide more. Riding is not AFK. From the seat you watch the fuel tank, the wall HP, and the people who should be mining. Get off to mine. Get back on to steer the bit into the next wall. Lure mobs into the drill instead of dueling them in a side tunnel. The bit is the best weapon a Miner owns for trash packs.
Sacks fill with ore. Look at camouflaged nodes until they freeze, then mine. If you sprint past every shimmer, you will call the layer “empty” while coal sits in the wall. The miner hat light is the difference between seeing that shimmer and guessing. Drop ore at the furnace or the Trading Post; a full sack that never sells is a wasted Common upgrade.
Revive teammates. Downed players do not self-rez on a 12-second HP tick (that regen is 1 HP per 12 seconds while alive). Walk to the body, hold interact, then cover. During boss walls, teleporters are disabled (15 August patch), so the revive is a foot path, not a blink. Call the down in chat if the lobby is noisy.
Mobile versus PC, 30 players versus one
PC has an easier time tracking camouflaged ore and placing turrets. Mobile is fully playable if you keep the camera higher, sit on the Chair, and do not try to snipe Bombo while also driving. Use a quieter graphics preset if the 30-player lobby turns into fog. The upgrade panel is the same; the miss rate on E is higher on a phone, so park before you tap.
A full server is 30 players on one drill. That is online co-op, not a solo campaign with optional friends. You will still load into quiet servers, especially off-peak. Solo or three-player rules change:
- Fuel is your job. Coal first, always.
- Skip Spider’s Den and Spider’s Lair (see dungeons). You do not have the gunline.
- Craft Wrench, Chair, Scanner, then a Sentry Turret before you craft vanity.
- Buy Drill Power and Fuel Storage; ignore Power Drive until the bit already breaks walls.
- Lure packs into the drill. Do not clear Crystal arenas as if you had 29 backup guns.
- Churches at ~300 km are your stash. Until then, assume a crash wipes tools.
Third-party scripts and keyless lists exist. They are optional, they can break ToS, and they are not a control scheme. This page assumes you are pressing E yourself.
Fuel, death, and the save that is not there
Coal is fuel. When the tank drops, stop the vehicle and mine. A moving empty drill is a moving wipe. Void Clay in the Clay layer empties the tank on contact; Fuel Leeches from Crystal onward chew it. Solo players treat those as hard walls. Park, mine, then roll. Do not “push through” a dry tank because a YouTube title said 100 KM is easy.
There is no persistent save if the server closes. In-run coins, drill ranks, and unsaved crafts vanish. A Church stores tools about every 300 km. Your first sessions will not reach one. Rebuy Miner for 100 Cores (Cores do persist on the account) and start another descent. Passes (Sack Storage 79 Robux, Extra Health 99 Robux) persist because they are Roblox passes; they do not restore a lost turret.
A solo loop that works: sit, open E, buy Drill Power if coins allow, hop off, freeze coal, fill the tank, lure a pack into the bit, hop on, break the next ordinary wall, and stop at every structure you can actually clear. Depth routing still follows the 100 KM plan even in a quiet server; you just skip more rooms. When the lobby fills, hand driving to someone who is already in the Chair and go back to mining. The 30-player game is still a mining game. The controls exist so you can feed the machine, not so you can spectate it from the lobby emote menu.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Cores, classes, and the 100 KM wall.
How do I open drill upgrades?
Walk up to the drill and press E on PC, or the on-screen interact button on mobile. Coins buy those ranks during the run. Cores still spend only in the lobby.
Can I play Drill to Earth's Core solo?
Yes, in a quiet server, but the design is 30-player online co-op. Solo players should skip spider rooms, over-invest Fuel Storage, and lure mobs into the drill.
Does the game save my tools?
Not if the server closes. Churches about every 300 km store gear. Classes and Cores on your account persist. In-run coins and unsaved crafts do not.
Is mobile different from PC?
Same prompts, harder camera. Sit on a Chair, park before opening upgrades, keep the view high for camouflaged ore, and do not drive and snipe at the same time.
