Drill to Earth's Core What to Buy on the Drill

Rarity costs, stacking tax, Driller discounts, and the Power Drive trap.

Drill Upgrade Tier List

Drill upgrades are the Coin spend that the whole 30-player server shares. You buy them during a descent at the upgrade menu — usually at a trading post — and they reset when the run ends. Classes stay on your account; these nodes do not. That is why a Driller who discounts the right nodes is S-tier on the class tier list, and why a lobby that dumps Coins into Power Drive will stall even if everyone owns Lucky Looter. This page ranks the upgrade board for Season 1. Pair it with the 100 km route and the layer tool so you buy for the rock in front of the bit, not for a screenshot of a maxed cart.

Rarity and first-copy cost

RarityFirst copyWhat lives here
Common100 CoinsDrill Power, Fuel Storage, Drive Speed, Drill Defense, Deadly Drill, Team Health, Sack Storage, Power Drive
Rare250 CoinsPower Slam, Engine Overdrive, Mega Drill, Firepower, Sharpness, Blast Power
Epic500 CoinsPower Burst, Mounted Gunner, RPM Overclock, Life Steal
Legendary1,000 CoinsMoney Drill, Ultra Drill, Health Regen
Mythic10,000 CoinsCart Extension

Those are first-copy prices. Every extra buy of the same rarity adds a stacking tax: Common +20, Rare +50, Epic +100, Legendary +200, Mythic +10,000. The tax hits the rarity, not the node name. Four Common Drill Powers make the next Common — even Fuel Storage — more expensive. That is the hidden reason Power Drive is a trap: each vanity Common copy steals budget from the next Drill Power. Spend inside a rarity on purpose, not because the button is cheap today.

Buy order that actually reaches rock

Priority, from first Coin to late-run luxury:

  1. Drill Power if you are free-to-play, or RPM Overclock if you are spending Robux.
  2. Power Burst so the driver can spike wall damage and speed on command.
  3. Health Regen, Team Health, and Deadly Drill once the bit is keeping up with layer HP.
  4. Fuel Storage so the vehicle does not die in a long uninhabited stretch.
  5. Everything else as a spice, not a meal.

Drill Power is the free-to-play spine. It raises wall damage, it is Common, and it is the node you will buy many times. RPM Overclock is Epic and raises hits per second; it is the Robux-leaning spine because the Coin cost and stacking tax hurt more, but the time save on deep rock is real. Power Burst unlocks burst mode — a driver toggle, not a passive — and it is the first Epic that pays even if you never touch Overclock. Health Regen (Legendary, team heal over time) and Team Health (Common, max HP) are how pubs survive the lower layers. Deadly Drill lets the front of the vehicle chew enemies, which is free damage if you kite brutes into the bit instead of wasting Dynamite.

Fuel Storage is the honest support buy. Deep layers punish empty tanks more than they punish a slightly slower cart. Drive Speed is fine once, maybe twice, then stop. Sack Storage is an early comfort for ore runs and a waste if you already own the 79 Robux Sack Storage pass. Extra Health at 99 Robux is a pass, not an upgrade node; do not confuse the two. Engine Overdrive (speed after a broken wall) and Mega Drill (crit chance on walls) are Rare spice that a Driller can afford more often because Mega Drill is on the discount list. Firepower, Sharpness, and Blast Power buff guns, melee, and explosives — buy them when the weapons list is already in play, not as a substitute for wall damage.

Driller discounts and the Power Drive trap

Driller is the upgrade class. It brings +50% Drill Power on the kit and cheaper copies of Drill Power, Mega Drill, and Power Slam. Power Slam is the Rare “every 10 hits, bonus wall damage” node; it is a good buy on a Driller and a luxury on a Scout. If two Drillers are in the 30-player lobby, let them sit on the upgrade menu. Their discounts apply to the shared vehicle. A Lucky Looter should be selling chests, not arguing about who clicks Drill Power.

Power Drive makes the drill accelerate faster. It is Common, it looks like a movement stat, and it is the Coin dump that creators keep telling people to skip. Acceleration does not break a high-HP wall. After Engine Overdrive exists, the vehicle already gets a burst when a wall dies. Stacking tax then makes the next Common Drill Power more expensive because you bought vanity acceleration. If the menu is showing Power Drive and Drill Power, take Drill Power. If the menu is showing Power Drive and nothing else useful, wait, sell more ore, and reroll the offer rather than feeding the tax.

Ultra Drill (Legendary, stacking damage while you drill nonstop) is a deep-run luxury, not a first Legendary. Health Regen is the Legendary you actually want. Money Drill (coins per broken wall) looks like a loot node and loses to selling dungeon chests and gold bars. Cart Extension at 10,000 Coins adds a cart; it is a late Mythic for crafting modules, not a 20 km purchase. If you are crafting autopilot, sentries, or drill boosts, read the crafting guide before you blow a Mythic tax on a second cart you cannot fill.

Matching upgrades to depth

Early layers forgive a weak bit. You can take one Sack Storage, one Drive Speed, and still recover. Mid layers start charging you for vanity Commons. By the time the layer tool shows rock that laughs at a starter drill, you should have a stack of Drill Power, at least a first Power Burst, and a plan for fuel. The 100 km route assumes that order. A lobby that reaches a boss wall with four Firepower copies and one Drill Power did not have a weapon problem — it had an upgrade-priority problem.

Life Steal (Epic, HP on melee hits) is the Bruiser and Reaper toy. Mounted Gunner adds a shooter on the vehicle and is a nice Epic after Burst and Overclock. None of those nodes replace Deadly Drill plus town turrets for trash packs. Use the tier list hub when you need class or weapon ranks next to this board. Spend Coins like the drill is the boss, because it is.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Cores, classes, and the 100 KM wall.

What should free-to-play players buy first?

Drill Power. It is Common, it raises wall damage, and it is the node you will stack all run. Take RPM Overclock first only if you are already spending Robux into that Epic.

Why is Power Drive ranked as a trap?

It only helps acceleration, and each Common copy raises the stacking tax for every other Common, including Drill Power. Engine Overdrive already bursts speed after a wall breaks.

Which upgrades does Driller discount?

Drill Power, Mega Drill, and Power Slam. A Driller in the lobby should be the one clicking those three so the shared vehicle scales faster.

When is Cart Extension worth 10,000 Coins?

Late, when you actually have crafting modules to mount. It is a Mythic luxury for long carts, not an early wall-damage buy.
