Drill to Earth's Core Dungeons, churches, and bad chests

3 km tutorial, Dirt spiders, Clay mansions, Crystal arenas, Bombo, mimics, and the 300 km Church stash.

Dungeons and Structures

The drill is the highway. Structures are why a 100 KM run has loot. Drill to Earth’s Core places a guaranteed dungeon at 3,000 m, then rolls random structures about every 7 km, with a Church about every 300 km. Skipping every door to “save time” is how lobbies arrive at Crystal with empty sacks, no scrap, and no medkits. This page is what lives in each band, which rooms to skip, and how not to die to a chest.

Fight structure bosses at range. Melee in a doorway while the drill is still chewing is how half the server downs at once. Turrets from Crazy Zack belong on the threshold, not in the loot room. Gun picks sit on the weapons ranking. Classes that care about chest volume start at Lucky Looter.

Tier 1-3 rooms and the Dirt band

The 3,000 m dungeon is the tutorial and it is guaranteed. Grass has just ended (0-3,000 m, 100 HP walls). Dirt is starting (3,000-10,000 m, 500 HP walls). Go in. Learn mimics here, while wall HP is still a joke. A mimic looks like a chest until it winds up; back up, shoot, then loot the real boxes. Tier 1 rooms are short hallways and one or two chests. Tier 2 adds a named creep. Tier 3 is an arena. If the lobby cannot finish a Tier 3 without feeding, leave. The drill does not wait forever, and Clay will punish a late, dry chassis.

Dirt also rolls Spider Tunnel and Mineshaft. Mineshaft is a yes: ore, scrap, and a layout that guns can hold. Spider Tunnel (Spider’s Den on callouts) is a maybe. Webs plus a disorganized 30-player pile-in is a wipe. Skip it when the tank is already low or nobody brought a gun, which is the same skip rule on the 100 KM route. Take it when four people can shoot from the mouth of the cave without blocking the bit.

Random structures keep appearing about every 7 km through Stone (10,000-17,000 m, 1,000 HP walls). Trading Posts are not dungeons; they are still mandatory. Sell bars, buy medkits, leave. Ordinary walls every 700 m to 1 km are not structures. Do not park the drill for a 100 HP Grass leftover while a Mineshaft is 200 m off the bit.

Clay, Crystal, and the things that explode

Clay (17,000-24,000 m, 2,000 HP walls) hosts Vampire Mansion and Golden Keys. The mansion is a loot spike and a time spike. Run it when fuel is stable. Void Clay in the same layer empties the tank; a mansion clear that ends with a dry drill is a bad trade. Golden Keys open the better boxes. If you have a key and a mimic room, assume the fancy chest is the mimic until it is dead.

Crystal (31,000-41,000 m, 10,000 HP walls) hosts Goblin Arena and Spider’s Lair. Arena is a gun check. Spider’s Lair is the second spider skip if Den already went badly. Crystal is also where Bombo and Fuel Leeches join the cast. Bombo explodes and disables crafted items for one minute. Kill it at range. Do not stack Sentry Turrets on its patrol. Fuel Leeches are a mining problem: keep coal coming, keep Fuel Storage ranked, and do not treat a leech swarm as a dungeon you have to “finish” while the tank hits zero.

Fossil, Toxic, Radioactive, Abyss, and Void still roll the every-7 km timer. Rooms get meaner; the rule does not change. Peek, shoot from the mouth, pull bosses out, never stand in the drill doorway. Teleporters work between boss walls and do not work during them after the 15 August patch, so a dungeon that overlaps a layer boss is a foot-path problem. Layer HP lives on the layer tool.

Churches, mimics, and why you still hop off

Churches appear about every 300 km and store gear. That is the persistence the rest of the game refuses to give you. If the server closes, unsaved tools vanish. Bank at the Church. Do not walk out with a Void Drill Boost in a sack you will drop on a Bombo. First-hour runs will not see a Church; 100 KM clears that continue toward Heart of Earth will. Play accordingly.

Mimics are not rare spice. Treat every unattended chest as hostile until it opens clean. Lucky Looter’s extra chest drops mean more mimics, not fewer. Reaper’s soul orbs (25 HP) are useful after a bad open. Miner still needs to leave the bit to light camouflaged ore on dungeon walls. Role pages start at the players hub.

A structure cadence that works: stop at the 3 km dungeon, take Mineshaft, skip Spider’s Den if the lobby is a mess, take Vampire Mansion only with fuel in the tank, take Goblin Arena if guns exist, skip a second spider wipe, bank at Church if you ever see one, and never ignore a Trading Post because you are “in a dungeon arc.” Scrap from these rooms funds crafting. Chests fund Cores. Depth still comes from the bit. The rooms are how the bit can afford to keep spinning.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Cores, classes, and the 100 KM wall.

When is the first dungeon guaranteed?

At 3,000 m, as Grass turns into Dirt. Random structures then appear about every 7 km. Churches are much rarer, about every 300 km.

What is a Church used for?

Storing gear. The game has no persistent save if the server closes. A Church is the stash that actually keeps tools between crashes.

How do I deal with Bombo?

Fight at range from Crystal onward. Bombo explodes and disables crafted items for one minute, so pull turrets and boosts off its patrol before you commit.

Are mimics real?

Yes. Chests can be mimics. Open from range, shoot the wind-up, then loot. Lucky Looter adds extra chest drops, which means extra mimics too.
